Prof. Tri Wiratno was born in Boyolali on September 14, 1961. He currently holds the rank of Pembina Utama Madya (IV/d). He has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), since 1987. Throughout his career, he has taken on various administrative and academic roles, including Secretary of the Language Service and Development Center at UNS (2000–2003), Secretary of the Master’s Program in Linguistics (2009–2011), and Vice Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs (2019–2024). He has also served as a reviewer and interviewer for the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) since 2016 and as a textbook evaluator for BSNP/Puskurbuk from 2005 to 2016.
In the past five years, Prof. Wiratno has conducted numerous independent research projects and over 36 community service activities. His academic contributions include more than 70 scientific articles published in national and international journals or presented at conferences and seminars. He has authored seven books and several book chapters.
Prof. Wiratno is actively involved in various professional organizations. He has been a member of the Linguistic Society of Indonesia (MLI) since 1994, the Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) since 1996, the Association of Systemic Functional Linguistics in Indonesia (ASFLI) since 2006, and the International Systemic Functional Linguistics Association (ISFLA) since 2009. He has been a visiting lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2010), the University of Technology Sydney (2012), and the University of Sydney (2016). Additionally, he serves as an external dissertation examiner at various universities in Indonesia and has been an external examiner for Ph.D. dissertations at Macquarie University since 2011.
